Praised by critics as “a musician whose finesse, intelligence and sensitivity blend harmoniously” (Diapason) and who creates moments of “pure beauty” (Bachtrack), Dominic Chamot is emerging as “one of the new musical stars of the international piano scene” (Fono Forum).
Born in Cologne in 1995, he is the winner of nine competitions including the Viotti, Ferrol and CIPCE competitions. He has also won 26 further prizes and awards at competitions such as Maria-Canals, Hilton Head and many more.
He began his studies at the age of twelve with Prof. Sheila Arnold at the Pre-College Cologne (HfMT Köln), and later moved to Basel to continue his musical development with Claudio Martínez-Mehner and Zoltán Fejérvári at the Musik-Akademie Basel. He subsequently studied with Rena Shereshevskaya at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, who remains his mentor.
In parallel, Chamot established an international career with performances worldwide. He has appeared in 18 countries across four continents, performing in major venues such as the Berlin and Cologne Philharmonies, the Vienna Musikverein, and the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. He has been invited to perform with leading European orchestras including the WDR and ORF Symphony Orchestras, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, collaborating with conductors such as Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Cornelius Meister, David Marlow, and others.
In 2025, highlights included recitals at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, at the LFJ-Festival in Tokyo and at the Piano Festival La Roque-d’Anthéron.
In 2026, he will join the faculty of the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, becoming Switzerland’s youngest piano professor at the age of 30.
Chamot is also highly sought after as a chamber musician. He is a regular guest at festivals such as Gstaad, Davos, the Schwetzingen Mozart Festival, and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, frequently collaborates with musicians from Switzerland’s leading orchestras—including the Tonhalle Zurich, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, and Basel Symphony Orchestra—and has released a duo CD with Sergio Pires, principal clarinetist of the London Symphony Orchestra. His chamber music partners have also included Kian Soltani, Sirena Huang, and many others.
Dominic Chamot has received scholarships from numerous foundations, among them the Jürgen Ponto Stiftung, Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, Migros-Kulturprozent, Lieven Piano Foundation, Jmanuel und Evamaria Schenk Stiftung, August-Pickhardt Stiftung, Stiftung für junge Musiktalente Meggen, and the Kiefer Hablitzel Stiftung.
